National health reforms information
The Division supports the recent proposal by the Australian Government to take over policy and funding responsibilities for GP and primary health care services in Australia.
Division President Dr Rashmi Sharma said in a media statement a separate Primary Health Care Organisation with direct funding will provide a more effective, sustainable health system. Dr Sharma said increased and protected investment in prevention, general practice and community based care is proven to improve health care outcomes and reduce pressure on the acute hospital sector.
ACTDGP also advocates equal referral services for patients from surrounding regions outside the ACT and that these services not stop at state borders.
