RACGP Clinical Emergency Medicine Program - Advanced Workshop

Hosted by the RACGP and ACT Division of General Practice.  Two day Advanced Workshop.


Overview The Clinical Emergency Management™ Program (CEMP) Advanced workshops have been designed to further build participants’ knowledge, skills and confidence when responding to medical emergencies. These workshops are facilitated by a national team of highly trained intensive care paramedics. This workshop has been designed by GPs for GPs in direct response to feedback requesting an additional intensive workshop focusing on advanced adult resuscitation and paediatric emergencies.


Eligibility criteria  To be eligible to register for a CEMP Advanced workshop, participants must have completed either a CEMP Intermediate workshop (formerly Emergency Life Support Skills), or an ACLS, ALS, APLS, ELS, EMST, ILS or REST course within the past 4 years. Participants who have attended non-RACGP prerequisite courses are required to submit a certificate of attendance when faxing their registration form to confirm that participation has occurred within the past 4 years.

Health Records Training Session

Hosted by the ACT Human Rights Commission for health service providers.
This course aims to:
  • Provide participants with an understanding of the laws regarding health information, privacy and access issues;
  • Give health service providers a clear understanding of their obligations;
  • Give health service consumers a clear understanding of their rights;
  • Work through scenarios to illustrate those rights and responsibilities;
  • Outline the Commissioner's complaint handling role;
  • Outline the upcoming amendments to the legislation that come into force on 30 September 2010.
This course costs $125 and is being held on both Tuesday 14 and Tuesday 28 September.

The ABC of CBT: Skills for GPs

Hosted by the ACT Division of General Practice and presented by Black Dog Institute for GPs.
This 20 hour Focused Psychological Strategies course (held over three days, 9, 23 & 24 October) is designed for GPs who have an interest in mental health and would like to learn CBT skills to treat patients with psychological problems (especially depression) within their general practice.
Course prerequisites
It is strongly advised that participants:

1. Are registered with GPMHSC for MHST
2. Have attended previous BDI training
3. Are familiar with the BDI model of depression
Please note that in order to be eligible to register for FPS Skills Training you must already be accredited with Mental Health Skills Training.

  • The course consists of 3x6 hour workshops and 2 hours of self directed learning.
  • Completion of the full program (3 workshops plus Internet component) will qualify GPs to register with GPMHSC as providers of FPS.
Topics addressed include:
  • The application of the BDI model of depression for selecting appropriate patients for CBT interventions
  • A discussion of the rationale and use of psychological treatments and of CBT in particular
  • Overview of CBT theory
  • Learning and practising of specific CBT skills and their application to worry, anxiety, panic, anger
  • CBT strategies taught will include mindfulness, cognitive challenging, behavioural experiments, and panic surfing

This event is held over three days: Saturday 9, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October.

Australian FRACGP Consultation Skills Workshop - Canberra

RACGP NSW&ACT Faculty, in partnership with the ACT Division of General Practice will be offering this one day workshop in Canberra for candidates who are looking to improve their chance of success in the FRACGP examination.  Consultation skills is one of the main areas of failure for IMGs in the FRACGP exam and so this workshop has been tailored with a unique program to address this need.
40 CPD points will apply.  Fee assistance may be available through the RDN Fellowship Support subsidy for practice eligible pathway IMGs.  Registration fee $350; includes morning and afternoon tea and lunch.
